A. Different types of marketing are appropriate at different stages of the buying process. A company should design their marketing mix accordingly. There are situations where direct marketing isn t appropriate or effective but many companies rely on direct marketing to generate qualified sales leads. In many cases, a company can generate $20-$50 in directly measurable sales for every $1 spent on direct marketing. With that kind of ROI, direct marketing is an integral part of many marketing plans.

A. I worked in DM for about 3 years. One of the large companies I worked with would use 3 alpha characters, all in caps. I.e., ACZ. Some basics: - Keep it short and easy to input - Use all capital letters - Don't use the letters O or I or the numbers 0 or 1 - Each code must be unique and they should be able to last until infinity. The large company ran so many campaigns that eventually, they had to repurpose their codes. However, a small company I worked with simply numbered their campaigns sequentially and "hid" the year in the code. I.e., 2501-01 for mailing list 1 for campaign 2501, in the year 2005 (year was the second digit).

A. With Direct Marketing, the idea is to build a pyramid. The main objective is to bring in more people and there is little to no push to sell any product. You must bring other people in under you in order to make money. Most businesses want to sell product, not just sell the concept of making money by having someone pay a fee.

But due to reckless telemarketing efforts carried out by cos. without proper training to staff it has lost the charm.
